Tenet's

2014

Costieres de Nimes, France
I know we are week early for the big grill and BBQ weekend but we had to grab this crowd pleasing red before it was gone. Think steak, juicy burgers and ribs!

The term “fervent” is defined as “having intensity of spirit, feeling and enthusiasm,” an apt description of winemaker Michel Gassier’s passion for Syrah.  You should be familiar with their other wines we love, The Pundit, The Convert and of course Le Fervent Rose!

90 Points The Wine Enthusiast

"It's labeled as Syrah, but this wine contains 10% Grenache and 3% Viognier as well, which both serve to plump up the mid-palate and lighten the aromatics. Thyme, bay leaf and cherry notes highlight the nose, while the palate is weighty and softly tannic, with a long, silky finish.
Drink now through 2022."

Our Thoughts on this wine.....

Very dark with purple hues.
The nose is both complex and intense, showing notes of violet, blueberry, orange peel and minerals.
Fresh and vibrant, the unctuous mouth feel delivers aromas of crushed violet, blueberry pie and pepper --
and is highlighted by hints of toast and china ink. Refined tannins and good acidity extend the perception of fresh fruits.

Two appellations, one winemaking team.
A joint effort between Washington state winemaker Bob Bertheau and Rhône winemakers Michel Gassier and Philippe Cambie.
The project began when the three winemakers met in Washington after the 2012 harvest. Despite that vintage’s broad acclaim, the team decided to wait a year to make sure they would be able to sort out which vineyards and styles they wanted to target.
“Syrah and other Rhône varietals from Washington are generally closer in style to the wines of the Old World than to other wines of the New World,” said Cambie, who grew up in Southern France’s Languedoc region. “This is why Michel and I chose to come here, and we’re happy to have found the ideal partner."

Costieres de Nimes
Costieres de Nimes is the most southerly appellation of the Rhone wine region in southeastern France. The wines of the area are reputed to have been consumed by the Ancient Greeks and thus figure among the oldest known wines in the world. A typical Costieres de Nimes red wine, made from the classic Southern Rhone Blend, is robust and spicy, and perfectly suited to the rustic local cuisine.
The Costieres de Nimes AOC covers an area between the towns of Nimes and Arles. Known as the Rhone Delta, this is the meeting point of the Rhone, Gard and Durance rivers before they head towards their final destination in the Mediterranean.
Le Fervent is produced in Costières de Nîmes, the southern-most appellation of the Rhône Valley nestled on the shore of the Mediterranean, and is sourced from some of the coolest vineyard sites of the Southern Rhône, thanks to the strong maritime influence.
