Novy Family Winery
Russian River Valley
 Zinfandel

2016

The critics agree this Zinfandel is a winner!

The reason is simple, this Zin comes almost exclusively from the Jensen Lane Vineyard (planted in 1915, the Limerick Lane Vineyard (planted in 1910), and the Carlisle Vineyard (planted in 1927). These older vine vineyards contribute exceptional fruit quality and concentration.

What, Zin with Turkey?
You bet!

Zinfandel is a classic turkey pairing wine for 2 reasons: for one, it’s a variety with a long history in America and two, the flavors of raspberry and sweet tobacco are an ideal match for rich, dark, smoked turkey meat. It also will do great alongside a honey baked ham. Zinfandel tends to be much more fruit-forward which is why is does well with sweet meat.

91 Points! The Wine Spectator
“Vibrant and jammed with fresh pepper and black licorice aromas, leading to zesty, well-built blackberry pie and cinnamon flavors. Drink now through 2025.”

90 Points! The Wine Enthusiast

“Floral in lovely ways, this big, bold and broadly expansive wine is hugely structured, with plenty of tannin and strong black-fruit flavor. Good supportive acidity keeps it balanced in the glass.”

90 Points! The Wine Advocate
“Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Zinfandel Russian River Valley offers up incredibly evocative notes of baked raspberries, blueberry pie and plum preserves with touches of Indian spices and fruit cake. Full-bodied and packed with plushly textured, spicy fruit, it finishes on a delicious spice cake note. ”

Our Thoughts.....

This dark red colored Zinfandel from Novy opens with a red raspberry and cola bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, fresh and juicy. The flavor profile is a cherry and cola blend with a hint of cinnamon. We also detected hints of red raspberry, mild minerality and rhubarb. The finish is dry and its flavors fade away nicely.

What’s with the flying pig?
The golden flying pig on Novy’s label represents the Czech traditions that are celebrated by Dianna, Adam, and the Novy family to this day.  As lore has it, on Christmas Eve many Czechs fast in hopes of seeing the golden pig appear on the wall prior to Christmas.  If they are so fortunate to see the golden pig, they are promised good luck.

A bit about Novy…

In 1988, as a sequel to Adam’s much lauded Siduri Pinot Noirs, Adam and Dianna founded Novy Family Wines together with Dianna’s parents and extended family. NOVY was born to capture Adam and Dianna’s mutual affection for Syrah and Zinfandel, and to engage the entire Novy family in the art of making wine together.

The winery handcrafts over 4000 cases of wine from vineyards ranging from Oregon's Willamette Valley down to the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County, including Napa, the Dry Creek Vally and the Russian River Valley AVAs. The Novy Family produces rich, character-filled wines that reflect their place of origin, including white (Blanc de Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier) and red (Grenache, Nebbiolo, Pinot Meunier, Syrah and Zinfandel) wines.
Novy Family Wines and its older sibling, Siduri Wines, have received the Wine Spectator's New York Wine Experience "Critics Choice" recognition a combined 7 times since 2004.
