The Wines

2017 Langhe ArneisRocche Costamagna, Piemonte

100% Arneis from vineyards in the Langhe,  the viticultural zone that also includes Barolo and Barbaresco.  Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve its fresh aromas, the ine shows notes of citrus, mineral and a touc of honey, without being in the least bit sweet—this wine is bone dry.  A all-year favorite! Versatile at table, with first courses, fried fish, stuffed vegetables and fresh cheeses.

2017 Falanghina SannioColline del Sole Campania

The Iomazzo family, under Roberto Iomazzo’s guidance, follows very strictproduction protocols, growing grapes of excellent quality that are used to produce superb wines.  The Falanghina Sannio is no exception, produced as a pure varietal wine, hand-harvested and aged in stainless steel elegant fruit flavors, with apple predominant. With rich shellfish and veal dishes, as well as Asian foods.  Also with semi-firm cheeses.

2017 Greco di TufoColline del Sole Campania

Another of Roberto Iomazzo’s wines, this one composed of 100% Greco variety, thought to hae originally come from Greece but today associated mostly with the Tufo commune in Avellino province.  As are all of Colline del Sole’s wines, the Greco is hand harvested to avoid damaged fruit.  Fermentation is likewise in stainless steel, to preserve the fresh aromas and flavors of pear and peach, with a touch of spice. Ideal with seafood grills and pasta salads with seafoods or shellfish.

2017 isle de Beauté idp Rouge, Domaine Vetriccie Corsica

The vineyards of Domaine Vetriccie (named for the wicker that grows wild on Corsica) were purchased in 1966 by the Barcelo Family. Daniel Barcelo, after making wine in several new world wine countries, came back to the family estate and focusesd his winemaking on the terroir and the respect of the land.  The red is a blend of 40% Niellucciu (the Corsican name for Sangiovese), 30% Sciaccarellu, 20% Merlot, 10% Syrah, fermented in stainless steel tanks.  A of black olive, currant and spices give way to blackcurrant, blackberry and licorice. Perfect for grilling.

2017 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo PAN, Bosco Nestore Abruzzo

It was in the late 1800s that the Bosco family came to viticultural prominence in Abruzzo, near to the city of Pescara.  Today they have a state-of-the-art winemaking facility in Nocciano and a reputation for making some of the best wines in the DOC.  This bottling is 100% Montepulciano aged 18-24 months in small barriques.  The influence of wood brought the god of wood, Pan, to  mind (the family surname, “bosco’ = “woods in Italian, hence the name).  Dark red fruit notes, with plum, chocolate and a touch of peppery spice. Ideal with summer grills and pastas, in cooler weather, with roasts and stews.

The Beers!!

Delirium Tremens
8.5% ABV Colour and sight: pale blond, the fine and regular effervesce ensures a fine and stable head. Scent: Slightly malty, a nice touch of alcohol, spicy.Flavour: Feels like the sound shot of alcohol is igniting the mouth. In reality the tongue and palate are warmed. The taste is characterized by its roundness. The aftertaste is strong, long-lasting and dry bitter. Yum.
