The wines are typically 90 points or better and are discounted 20-40%. Sometimes even more! when we can get special pricing from our vendors , we pass the savings along to you!!

Ethos means “character" in Greek. As originally used by Aristotle, it referred to a man's character or personality, especially in its balance between passion and caution. It’s a very apropos name for this wine as it truly shows what Columbia Valley can do.

You may remember we did this exact vintage last March and sold all there was in Virginia at the time. Three weeks ago I got the call that the winery found a few cases of the 2013. I literally forced myself to count to ten before I answered casually yes!!!! 

This wine is still a blast! 
It throws caution to the wind, it stares into your soul as it lures you in for the next engrossing sip. Beware!

"One of the standouts in the lineup is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Ethos Reserve, which comes from a number of sites in the Columbia Valley and incorporates 10% Merlot. Aged in 53% new French and American oak, this full-bodied, rich, unctuously textured and concentrated Cabernet is loaded with notions of currants, blueberries, smoked herbs, and licorice. Possessing low acidity, a plump, sexy profile and no hard edges, it can be enjoyed anytime over the coming decade."

Our Thoughts.........

Another year in bottle has only improved the integration of fruit and tannins. Vinous aromas of black fruits, licorice, dark chocolate and violet. Very lush and very ripe on the palate, with sweet black raspberry and chocolate flavors. Really spreads out to saturate the palate on the broad finish, which displays sophisticated tannins.

Vineyards and Winemaking
 Approximately one third of the fruit came from the Cold Creek Vineyard, one of the oldest and warmest sites in Washington. Planted in 1972, the low yielding old vines of Cold Creek produce small clusters and small berries, resulting in intense varietal flavors and deep color.
Each fermentation lot is tasted daily to evaluate the evolution of the tannins, modify extraction techniques and find the right moment to drain the wine off of its skins.

 

How CSM began….

1871
Missionaries and French fur traders bring vinifera plants to eastern Washington and teach Native Americans how to irrigate the Yakima Valley.
1934-1935
NAWICO (National Wine Company) founded in Seattle and Grandview. Pommerelle fruit wines founded in Seattle.
 1951
Under guidance from general manager Vic Allison, NAWICO begins planting vinifera grapes in the Columbia Valley. First variety planted is Grenache.
1954
Pommerelle and NAWICO merge to become American Wine Growers. Grenache released in cork-finished bottles.
1965
American Wine Growers plants first white Riesling in the Yakima Valley at Hahn Hill Vineyard.
1967
André Tchelistcheff, recently retired winemaker from Napa Valley’s Beaulieu Vineyards, visits Yakima Valley. Allison asks Tchelistcheff to become consultant to American Wine Growers. American Wine Growers launches "Ste. Michelle" wines made from vinifera grapes grown in eastern Washington. Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Semillon, Grenache Rosé are the first varieties produced.
